The new look gives Simple Salon a fresh, modern feel. The icons are simpler, the colours are bolder, and once you know what each one does, the whole interface is easier to fly through. This guide is your cheat sheet. Bookmark it, share it with the team, and refer back any time you spot an icon you’re not sure about.
You’ll find your icons in three places: the dark sidebar down the left, the top bar above the main area, and inside the page itself for things like editing, deleting and adding.
Sidebar icons
The sidebar is always visible on the left. Hover any icon to see its label pop up next to it.
| Appointments Opens the diary. This is your home page. | |
| POS Opens the Point of Sale to ring up a sale, take a payment or process a refund. | |
| Roster Opens the weekly staff roster. | |
| Reporting Opens reports. Note: still uses the Old Look for now. | |
| Marketing Opens marketing tools. Note: still uses the Old Look for now. | |
| Admin Opens the admin area. Note: still uses the Old Look for now. | |
| Ordering Opens stock ordering. Note: still uses the Old Look for now. | |
| Sign Out Locks you out of this operator session and goes back to the PIN screen. You stay logged in to the salon. | |
| Switch to Old Look Asks “Are you sure?”, then takes you back to the classic Simple Salon look. | |
A | Logged in as (your initial) Shows the operator currently logged in. Click to switch operators. |
| Logout Fully logs you out of the Simple Salon account and returns to the email and password sign in. |
Sign Out vs Logout - what’s the difference? Sign Out just locks the current operator and pops the PIN screen back up. Logout ends the whole Simple Salon session. Pick the right one when you walk away from the front desk.
Top bar icons
The top bar lives above whichever page you’re on. Most pages share these.
| Previous Step back one day (in Appointments) or one week (in Roster). | |
| Next Step forward one day or one week. | |
| Add (Plus) Create something new. Context-aware - adds a sale line in POS, a service from the search bar, and so on. | |
| Notifications Opens the in-app notifications panel. | |
| Search Opens search to find clients, appointments or services. | |
| More (three dots) Opens the overflow menu. Usually contains Print and other utility actions for the current page. | |
| Print Found inside the More menu. Prints the current view. |
Inside the diary and tables
These icons live on rows, cells and column headers. Same icon, same job, no matter where it appears.
| Plus on an empty cell Click to create. In Appointments it makes a new booking. In Roster it adds a shift. | |
| Pencil (Edit) Edit the row, field or item you’re hovering on. | |
| Trash (Delete) Removes the row or item. Always asks “Are you sure?” first. | |
| Three dots on a row More actions for that specific row. Hide an operator, move a column, reprint a receipt, and so on. | |
| Up chevron Collapse a section, or in POS, fold a customer’s items away. | |
| Down chevron Expand a section back out. | |
| X in a field Clears the value in that input. | |
| Eye Show or hide a masked value (your PIN, for example). | |
| Scan In POS, opens the barcode scanner for products. | |
| Export On the Roster, exports the current week. The little up arrow always means “send this out”. | |
| Opening Hours (clock) On the Roster, opens the salon’s opening hours settings. | |
| Backspace On the PIN keypad, deletes the last digit you entered. |
Colour cues
The new look uses colour to mean things, not just to look pretty. Once you’ve spotted the pattern, you’ll see it everywhere.
| Green pill or button - the main action, the active tab, or “right now” markers like the Today button. | |
| Outlined pill - a secondary or inactive option. | |
| Red - the current time line in the diary, warnings, and destructive actions like the remove-customer button. | |
| Orange or peach banner - a friendly heads-up. Won’t block you from doing anything. | |
| Diagonal hatching in a diary cell - the operator is unavailable or outside their working hours. | |
| Pastel coloured blocks in the diary - each colour is the service category for that appointment. |
A few quick rules of thumb
- Plus always creates. Anywhere you see a plus icon, you can click it to add a new thing.
- Three dots always means “more”. If a row or page looks short on options, the dots are hiding the rest.
- Green means go. The primary button on any screen will be the green one. Look for it when you don’t know what to do next.
- Red means stop and think. Red icons remove, delete, or warn. Use them on purpose.
- Hover gives you the label. If you’re not sure what an icon does, just hover. The label will pop up.
