Simple Salon has two ways to run your roster: Simple Rostering and Advanced Rostering. This article gives you the lay of the land so you can pick the right one and find your way around.
Simple Rostering or Advanced Rostering?
Both control the same thing: which operators show up for booking, and when. The difference is how much flexibility you need.
- Simple Rostering is the default when your account is first created. You set one week of hours per operator, and it repeats every week. Good for a steady, predictable team.
- Advanced Rostering lets every week look different. You can add Roster Types (Rostered On, Annual Leave, Sick Day, Lunch and so on) and attach pay rates, so the Wages Report can work out what everyone's owed.
Most salons start on Simple Rostering and move to Advanced once their hours start changing week to week, or once they want wages tracked from the roster.
Switching between them
You can turn Advanced Rostering on or off yourself. It's a setting, not a separate product.
- Click your profile at the bottom left of the main menu, then Settings.
- Search for or scroll to the Roster section.
- Switch on Enable Advanced Rostering.
- Click Save at the top of the dialog.
Turning Advanced Rostering on doesn't erase your existing roster, it just adds the extra options on top. You can switch back to Simple Rostering the same way if it turns out to be more than you need.
Where your opening hours live
Whichever mode you use, your salon's trading hours are set in one place. Go to Roster, then click Opening Hours at the bottom of the page. Set your hours for each day and switch off the days you're shut so they show Closed.
Next to Opening Hours is Public Holidays/Alternate Trading Hours. Use a Public Holiday to close the diary for one date, even on a day you'd normally trade. Use Alternate Trading Hours to open up on a day you're normally closed, with its own hours for that day. This screen still opens in the classic Simple Salon admin screens.
Where to next
If you're staying on Simple Rostering, head to Simple Rostering: Setting Opening Hours, Public Holidays and Operator Hours for the full walkthrough.
If you're switching to Advanced Rostering, the Advanced Rostering overview covers Roster Types, Roster Rates, building shifts and the Wages Report.
Either way, you can hide operators who aren't rostered on for the day. See Only Show Columns of Operators Who Are Rostered On.
