Setting up SMS in Simple Salon is quick. Most of it is already done for you.
- Step 1: Buy some SMS credits (if your plan doesn't include SMS, or you need extra credits)
- Step 2: Turn on your automatic appointment reminders
Step 1: Buy some SMS credits
Some plans include a number of SMS each month. Check what your plan includes on our pricing page, or see How to Change your Simple Salon Subscription Plan.
If your plan doesn't include SMS, or you've used them all, buy SMS credits like this:
- Go to Admin.
- Click the Messaging tab.
- In the SMS Setup section, click Buy Credit.
- The Top-Up SMS Balance pop-up opens. Choose how many credits you want, then click Purchase. You'll be asked to confirm the payment.
- Click Yes. The credit card on file is charged and the credits are added to your balance.
- (Optional) To top up automatically, open Auto Top-Up and tick Enable Auto Top-Up. Choose a Recharge Threshold and an Amount to Recharge, then click Save. The Recharge Threshold is the balance that triggers the top-up.
Important: you need a credit card set as your default payment method to buy SMS credits. Direct debit can't be used for credits. See How to Update Subscription and SMS Top up Billing Details in Simple Salon.
Notes
- One SMS is 160 characters. If you go over, the message is sent as 2 SMS and you're charged for 2. To stop this, switch off Allow Multiple SMS Messages in Settings > Marketing. See SMS Character Limits and Unicode.
- SMS sent from the Marketing page don't use your purchased credits. If you have included SMS, those can be used for marketing. Otherwise you pay on the spot, so you know the cost of a campaign before it goes out.
Step 2: Turn on your automatic appointment reminders
- Go to Admin.
- Click the Messaging tab.
- In the Smart Send section, click Edit next to 1st Appointment Reminder.
- Tick SMS Enabled and/or Email Enabled. Emails are free through Simple Salon.
- In Days BEFORE Appointment to send message, enter how many days before the appointment the reminder goes out.
- If you've made your own templates, choose them from the SMS Template and Email Template drop-downs. Otherwise the default templates are fine. See How to Edit SMS & Email Templates.
- Click Save.
Notes
- 2 Way SMS is already set up in your Messaging account. When a client replies Yes to a reminder, the letter C (for Confirmed) appears on their appointment.
- The default reminder templates don't include a "Reply Yes" line. Edit the default, or make your own message. See How to Edit SMS & Email Templates.
- To see the SMS you've sent and your clients' replies, open the Campaign Report from the Marketing page. Change the dates, click Recipients on any SMS campaign, and look in the Response column. See How do I know if my SMS or email has sent?.
